Youth Summit 2017

Earlier this summer, young Santa Feans from different neighborhoods, socioeconomic backgrounds, and schools came together to plan and carry out a one-day summit on issues and challenges facing young people in the community. Supported this year by Eagle Rock Professional Development – a national leader in youth advocacy – and Americorps VISTA program, the summit was planned by a group of 20 young Santa Feans identified as leaders in their schools or communities, and engaged 300 youth in active conversation about the community.

Youth Summit 2015

Approximately 300 youth gathered at the Chavez Community Center on Tuesday, October 27 to discuss a range of issues and goals for the Santa Fe Community and young people identified in the 2015 Teen Survey. The Teen Survey was commissioned by the City of Santa Fe Children and Youth Commission and conducted by the Story of Place Institute. The Youth Summit is an extension of the Mayor’s efforts to engage young people, promote overall well being and extend opportunities to kids growing up in Santa Fe. The issues identified in the Survey and discussed at the Summit included job opportunities, need to feel like more trusted members of the community, real world readiness, financial distress for students and families, community activities for youth, bullying, mentorship, healthy food in schools, youth homelessness, immigrant youth and others. The summit was facilitated by youth leaders who have gone through a series of trainings with the Eagle Rock Professional Development team, a national leader in youth advocacy and programs particularly in re-engagement of disconnected youth. The outcome from the Youth Summit was presented at the Opportunity Santa Fe Community Summit on November 18.[/cs_text]
