The Reading Group a Collaborative Working Group of Opportunity Santa Fe, in concert with Santa Fe Public Schools is excited to announce that The Reading Group recently received a Molina Foundation Families Learning Together Grant of 55,000 books for children and youth.  The gift – valued in excess of $400,000 — arrived in Santa Fe Monday, December 14 on a semi-trailer filled with 24 pallets.

Now that the books have arrived, the hard work of sorting through the titles will begin. The Reading Group is looking for help in the effort, including space (about 4,000 square feet) for the team of volunteers to work through the inventory.  Once the books are inventoried, they will be distributed to the children and youth in Santa Fe and to rural and tribal libraries in New Mexico.

The Molina Foundation is a national nonprofit organization focused on reducing disparities in access to education and health.  The Molina Foundation and The Reading Group are partnering with the Santa Fe Public Library and the City of Santa Fe. The project helps families develop home libraries, a critical factor in literacy development.
