On August 13, 2018, César Chávez Elementary School rang in the new school year with a special evening dedicated to the families within the Tierra Contenta community. At Monday’s Open House, students and parents were invited to explore the campus, and mingle with teachers as a way to help envision the learning environment, and more clearly define their goals for the year to come. A light dinner which consisted of the tried-and-true hot dog with potato chips was served alongside refreshments in the cafeteria, where additional resources for enrichment opportunities were laid out. Many nonprofit organizations, such as YouthWorks and Communities in School, were in attendance to offer their expertise to anyone who was interested. César Chávez’s school counselor was an active participant, serving as a liaison between the parents and the organizations. In addition, the elementary school generously donated an abundance of Spanish and English books, ranging from encyclopedias to storybooks for parents and children to explore and take home. Overall, the night was brimming with enthusiasm, and much appreciation for the warm welcome and bright promise of a rewarding school year.
